Help alleviate poverty in Malawi.
I am currently in one of the poorest regions of one of Africa’s poorest nations, volunteering for DIN Malawi, a non-profit who alleviate poverty in their local community by supporting HIV/AIDS groups, women’s empowerment and health literacy programs.
To be frank, it’s pretty tough to be here and see how many Malawians are facing hunger each day. Their primary source of food is maize and, due to climate change worsening the effects of flood and drought, often the crops are destroyed and there is nothing left to harvest.
We have just launched a new project to assist the HIV/AIDS support groups who are struggling to take their life saving medication on an empty stomach. The aim is to empower the groups by providing income generating resources so that they can become self-sufficient and are not reliant on donations.
